Children of Maybank employees

Hard work and sheer diligence in studies paid-off for 104 children of Maybank Group employees when Maybank recognised their efforts and achievements at a special presentation ceremony for the Maybank Group Academic Excellence Awards.

 

Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, President & CEO of Maybank presented cash awards and certificates to the recipients at the ceremony held at Putra World Trade Centre Auditorium Kuala Lumpur.

 

In his speech, Dato' Sri Wahid said the Maybank Group Academic Excellence Award will continue to reward young and deserving children of Maybankers who excel in their public examinations. "We value hard work, dedication and excellent results. We recognise that success comes with diligence, perseverance and commitment," he added.

 

Dato' Sri reminded the recipients to be grateful to their parents who made tremendous sacrifices to ensure they receive head start in life. "In the midst of celebrating the success, let's not forget our parents who have inspired us, prodded us along and constantly motivated us to excel in our studies," he said.

 

The top scorer for PMR was Harith Haider, age 16 who received RM500 and a certificate, for his excellent results in the 2008 PMR examination. Harith is the son of En Haider Bin Haron from Etiqa Insurance and Takaful. Harith said that full concentration during classes when subjects were taught was very important. "Understanding the subject in class helps tremendously when I did my revision for the examination," he said. When it is time to study, I would pay 100% concentration and when it is time to play, I would play and not worry about my studies."

 

For Jesslyn Clarissa Wong, second time award recipient and also an actuarist in making, this award will motivate her further to achieve her ambition. Jesslyn is the daughter of Mr Wong Keng Seng from Risk Management .Jesslyn who does not believe in last minute work, stressed that setting a goal is important to drive one to success. She also attributed her success to a well-planned schedule as well the support and guidance from her parents. Jesslyn, 18 was the top scorer for SPM with 12As and she received RM1000 and a certificate.

 

Savinder Singh, who is currently pursuing his studies in law at Universiti Malaya, said he was grateful to receive the award, which is his first from Maybank. "One has to strike a balance between studying and recreational activities. This recipe has proven successful to me," he added. Savinder scored 4As to emerge as the top recipient for the 2008 STPM examination award. Savinder is the son of Mr Jugindar Singh from the Information Technology.

 

A total of 405 children of Maybank Group staff throughout the country were given awards this year. The remaining recipients from all the respective regions will receive their awards at various other locations throughout Malaysia later.

 

The Maybank Group Academic Excellence Award is part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) and employee engagement programme initiated by Maybank Group to recognise children of employees with outstanding results in their PMR, SPM and STPM examinations. Over and above its social obligations, Maybank hopes to instill the importance of academic achievements and encourage the pursuit of excellence amongst the younger generation.

 

In addition to this award scheme, Maybank Group also offers scholarships to tertiary students, excellence awards for Yippie Club savings account holders who excel in public examinations as well as sponsorships to employees for various courses including IBBM and banking related courses.
