The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer AmEx Credit Card

Kuala Lumpur, 25 February 2009 - Maybank, Singapore Airlines and American Express today jointly announce the launch of the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer American Express® Gold Credit Card, the first co-brand card between a card issuer and the airline Singapore Airlines co-brand credit card in Malaysia. The new card offers Malaysia's best frequent flyer miles programme to date, putting cardmembers on the fast track to fly for free and make their travel dreams a reality.

 

The card was launched by Lim Hong Tat, Senior Executive Vice President and Head Consumer Banking, Maybank, Kula Kulendran, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Network Services, American Express, Japan, Asia Pacific & Australia and Hew Chuen Chiet, General Manager Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore Airlines here in Kuala Lumpur today.

 

The card offers the best earn rate for airline miles in Malaysia as well as the most attractive savings for redeeming these miles for flights. For the first three months, cardmembers will earn two KrisFlyer miles for every RM2 spent on the Card, plus a welcome bonus of 3,000 KrisFlyer miles upon the first transaction being made on the Card. Thereafter, cardmembers will earn one KrisFlyer mile for every RM2 spent on the Card. Upon card renewal, When redeeming KrisFlyer miles for flight awards, cardmembers can enjoy up to 50% savings on KrisFlyer miles for a round trip economy class free flight on Singapore Airlines to the destination of their choice. In addition, cardmembers will enjoy complimentary access to the Plaza Premium Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, complimentary travel insurance, and all services and benefits that are part of American Express' card privileges.

 

Speaking at the launch, Lim Hong Tat said the credit card was unique as it combined the brand strengths and value of American Express, Singapore Airlines and Maybank.

 

"This card offers unsurpassed benefits as the best frequent flyer credit card in Malaysia and will appeal particularly to frequent flyers of Singapore Airlines who wish to enjoy the exclusive privileges in addition to the attractive benefits that American Express offers," said Lim.

 

Lim added that the introduction of the co-brand card was part of Maybank's strategy to work with leading brands to continuously offer distinct value to customers. The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer American Express® Gold Credit Card is the latest in the range of American Express charge and credit cards issued in Malaysia in three categories: Classic, Gold & Platinum. Maybank is the sole acquirer and issuer of the American Express cards in Malaysia.
