Maybank appoints Mohamed Rezwan as new Group Chief Risk Officer

Maybank has appointed Mohamed Rezwan Abdullah Ismail as its Group Chief Risk Officer (GCRO) effective 8 August 2024. Mohamed Rezwan will be responsible to strategise, lead and implement a progressive enterprise-wide risk management framework that appropriately identifies, manages and mitigates risks to achieve the strategic and business objectives of Maybank Group. He will report to the President & Group Chief Executive Officer (PGCEO) of Maybank and be a member of the Group Executive Committee.

Mohamed Rezwan, 48 years old, will succeed Datuk Hamzah Bachee who will retire from Maybank Group effective 8 August 2024, after a long-standing career of close to 36 years with Maybank.

 

With a banking career that spans more than 25 years, including his current role as Deputy GCRO, Mohammed Rezwan played a pivotal role in the assessment and transformation of critical risk functions, leading to proactive risk management practices that improved the Bank’s risk alignments to regulatory and business requirements. He is currently responsible for enhancing risk identification and measurement, embedding climate risk management, and the implementation of the revised Basel III framework.

 

Mohamed Rezwan is an accomplished professional with more than 25 years of experience, particularly in the areas of banking supervision and regulation. His career started with 19 years of service at Bank Negara Malaysia, where he last served as the Director of Financial Conglomerates Supervision. Thereafter, he served as Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for Lembaga Tabung Haji, and Chief Risk Officer at Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, before joining the Maybank Group as Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Etiqa International Holdings and his appointment as Deputy GCRO on 1 July 2023. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Michigan State University.

 

PGCEO of Maybank, Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli said that this appointment demonstrates the effectiveness of Maybank’s internal succession planning and is in line with the Bank’s talent management policy to strengthen and intensify its internal capacity building.

 

“Rezwan’s diverse experience in the practice of risk management and compliance, coupled with his experience in managing regulatory requirements before would enable him to contribute towards strengthening enterprise-wide risk management across our footprint, as well as supporting the growth aspirations of the Group, particularly its M25+ strategy.”

 

Meanwhile, Dato’ Khairussaleh added that the Maybank Group would like to thank Datuk Hamzah for his immense contributions, service and commitment over the years in shaping a high-performing organisation in this region.
