Maybank Marathon 2023 was announced by the President Director of Maybank Indonesia, Taswin Zakaria, and Project Director of Maybank Marathon, Widya Permana – together with Secretary General of Indonesia’s Athletic Association (PB PASI), Tigor Tanjung on Wednesday, 29 March 2023 in Jakarta.

This year’s Maybank Marathon will compete in categories of Marathon (42,195 km), Half-Marathon (21,1 km) and 10K, also Children Sprint with total prizes amounting to more than Rp2,7 billion. The race pack collection will be held on 25-26 August 2023 at Taman Bhagawan Benoa, Bali.

“Maybank Indonesia announced the date for our 2023 Elite Label Road Race Maybank Marathon, which will take place on 27 August 2023 in Bali. With this year’s Maybank Marathon, we aim to continually support local and international runners and enthusiasts to fulfil their aspiration to run along the Maybank Marathon race track in Bali and achieve their personal best,” says Taswin.

In its 12th year of establishment, Maybank Indonesia has taken a strategic step to engage in sister marathon collaboration between Maybank Marathon and one of South East Asia‘s prominent marathon events – Elite Label Road Race Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in Thailand. The sister marathon collaboration aims to expand Maybank Marathon networks, particularly among similar marathon events in the South East Asian region.

“The Maybank Marathon and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon sister marathon collaboration demonstrate our support towards Indonesia’s athletics sports industry. The sister marathon collaboration will open opportunities for exchange of runners and participation among events, and at the same time to position the Elite Label Road Race Maybank Marathon within those well-known world-class marathon events in South East Asia, even in Asia,” claimed Taswin.

Taswin saw the sister marathon collaboration was based on a common mission, i.e. as a catalyst in driving forward sports tourism and local community empowerment. In terms of tourism, Maybank Marathon featured an outdoor running experience with magnificent natural views of rural Bali, while Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon featured coastal scenery. Meanwhile, for community empowerment, Maybank Marathon actively partners with local Balinese communities along the race track through a series of corporate social responsibility programmes, while Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon engages with the local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises along the race track.

An agreement of sister marathon collaboration was signed between Maybank Marathon and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon through an MoU by the President Director of Maybank Indonesia, Taswin Zakaria and the Race Director of Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon, Rut Jiroajvanichakorn.

In the first year of the collaboration, Maybank Indonesia will provide free run slots for 40 Maybank Marathon 2023 best-time finishers from the open category (Indonesian citizens) to participate in the Marathon category (42,195 km) at Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in November 2023. Similarly, 40 runners of the Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon will have the opportunity to race in the Maybank Marathon 2024 event.

Maybank Marathon places the highest priority over the comfort and safety of the runners during the event, said Project Director Maybank Marathon, Widya Permana. ”Referring to the Government’s directive on easing public mobility, we look forward to a remarkable Maybank Marathon event this year, particularly with more flexibility in inbound and outbound travel. We hope to attract more international runners to join the Maybank Marathon 2023 race this coming August in Bali. Through sister marathon collaboration, we would like to encourage more runners to participate in marathon events across South East Asia, as it contributes to the country’s economy,” Widya further commented.

Before the Maybank Marathon 2023 race, Maybank Indonesia will hold a series of training and educational classes – ‘Road to Maybank Marathon 2023’ in 6 (six) cities, Medan, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Bali, and Makassar, starting in May until August 2023. The ‘Road to Maybank Marathon 2023’ series will hold a series of running clinic, Sunday morning run, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Life Support training, and other educational and physical preparation programmes.
