GETTING TO KNOW US

Maybank’s golf events also served as a platform to be a force for good by introducing the numerous facets of the group to the public, ranging from our various businesses and services to the community empowerment activities of the Maybank Foundation and other bodies, driving sustainable growth and economic empowerment.

One of the off-course highlights of the Maybank Championship was the Maybank Women Eco-Weavers fashion show, where some of the participating golfers took to the catwalk to show off the creations of the Maybank Women Eco-Weavers programme. Operating in Cambodia, Indonesia and Laos, the programme is designed to enrich and promote traditional woven textiles in a sustainable and inclusive manner. By empowering women to be self-sufficient, Maybank also helps improve the economic ecosystems of these communities.

The Maybank Championship also served as a global stage to showcase ASEAN’s rich heritage by featuring traditional dances and drum performances from the KataKatha initiative. Initiated by Maybank Kim Eng with the collaboration of PUSAKA and supported by the Maybank Foundation, the KataKatha project aimed to achieve a mutual understanding of the shared history, culture and traditions between Southeast Asian countries.

At The Village, spectators were able to check out products from participants of the Maybank Foundation’s Reach Independence & Sustainable Entrepreneurship (RISE) programme, which trains people with disabilities and the marginalised to succeed in business.

MaybankHeart, an online platform that enables NGOs and charitable bodies to raise funds for projects that benefit communities in need, was also highlighted during the tournaments. One of the tournament days was designated as the MaybankHeart Yellow Day, when players, officials and spectators were encouraged to wear something yellow in support of MaybankHeart.

In 2019, the MaybankHeart platform was used to help raise funds for the nationwide junior programme run by Malaysian professional Shaaban Hussin, who lost his left leg in a motorcycle accident in 2016. A former Maybank ambassador, Shaaban was present at the MaybankHeart booth to meet fans and sign copies of his book, “Shaaban Hussin – Jatuh Bangun Seorang Juara (The Rise & Fall of a Champion).”
